Minister of Finance of the Republic of Indonesia, UK Ambassador for Indonesia and Timor Leste, and Awardees of DIPI-Newton Fund (Doc: Puskasbaznas/Amelya)

PUSKASBAZNAS.COM, JAKARTA – Indonesian Science Fund (Dana Ilmu Pengetahuan Indonesia/DIPI) held the joint announcement and awarding ceremony DIPI-Newton Fund on Thursday (11/1) in the National Library of the Republic of Indonesia, Jakarta. Minister of Finance, Sri Mulyani Indrawati, gave a speech and simbolically gave the awards to the awardees.

Also attended the event were Moazzam Malik, the UK Ambassador for Indonesia and Timor Leste, Budhi M Suyitno, Secretary General of Indonesian Academy of Sciences (Akademi Ilmu Pendidikan Indonesia/AIPI), and the Excecutive Director of DIPI, Teguh Rahardjo.

There were 11 awardees receiving the funds for their joint research with researchers from UK, among others are Beti Ernawati Dewi from University of Indonesia, Fahmuddin Agus from Indonesian Center for Agricultural Land Resources Research and Development (ICALRRD), and Premana W. Premadi from Institute of Technology Bandung. The awardees cooperate with the researchers from various universitites both in Indonesia and in UK and have been through the selection process of the research grant from DIPI-Newton Fund since 2016.

DIPI funds basic and fundamental scientific investigations that show promise for increasing the knowledge value of scientific explorations in Indonesian society, while at the same time participating in the establishment of a vibrant Indonesian scientific research community on par with global and international scientific standards for excellence and merit-review. Therefore, DIPI also encourages the formation of national research fund forum as a platform for research stakeholders in Indonesia to share information and to open the cooperation opportunities between the stakeholders.

With experience as an institution that has provided research fund to the scholars, BAZNAS also strongly supports the establishment of the forum, especially with the Center of Strategic Studies of BAZNAS which actively conduct the research for the zakat development.

The formation of the forum is an effort to foster the more advanced research in Indonesia and bring blessings to the world, as stated by said Sri Mulyani in the end of her speech, “An advanced, confident, and optimistic Indonesia is an asset to the world.”
