PUSKASBAZNAS.COM, SOPPENG -- Puskas BAZNAS conducted the National Zakat Index (IZN) and Zakat Village Index (IDZ) surveys in Soppeng District, South Sulawesi. The goals of the surveys are to analyze zakat performance in the district as well as to capture the condition of one village there.

The assessment of zakat performance is done by using National Zakat Index. The index is also able to reflect the achievement of the zakat management objectives. There are two components of IZN, namely macro and micro dimensions.

Data collection of IZN was conducted at the office of BAZNAS Soppeng District on August 13, 2018. BAZNAS Soppeng is a newly established zakat institution so that there are still some improvements to be made. So far the collection of zakat rely on the civil servant and individual awareness. The leaders have tried to socialize zakat in various working areas and community mosques to make them aware of the importance of zakat institutions. In addition, their distribution is still based on consumptive zakat and while the productive zakat distribution has just been proposed through zakat community development program.

Furthermore, the researchers immediately went to village that is recommended to be assessed using IDZ. The instrument was constructed by Puskas BAZNAS and is used to assess a village condition based on five dimensions: economic, social and humanitarian, health, education, and da'wah.

Interviewing sharply and deeply to the key person who predominates the community, such as head of village, head of neighborhood association, and religious leader, is a method to obtain the valid and reliable data in order to gain some information regarding the appropriate program to be applied in the village. Furthermore, the using of IDZ encourages effectiveness and relevance in program implementation.

Overall, villagers work as rice farmers who earn their income from rice harvest. The village is located close to the city center so it has more advanced village structure. On average the villagers do not use interest loan because they will not be able to pay the loan. This village needs improvement both in economic and social aspects as well as in the fields of education, da'wah and health.
