Friday (02/28/2020). BAZNAS Center of Strategic Studies (Puskas BAZNAS) matched the work visit of The Indonesian Parliament (Commission VIII DPR RI) to the West Sumatra Province.

This event, was attended by 18 Parliment Members led by Deputy of Commission VIII HM Ihsan Yunus (PDIP Faction), and his team Moeklhlas Sidik (Gerindra Faction), Marwan Dasopang ( PKB Faction), Hasbi Asyidiki Jayabaya (PDIP Faction), Selly Andriany Gantina (PDIP Faction), Ign Kesuma Kelatan (PDIP Faction), Umar Bashor (PDIP Faction), John Kenedy Azis (Gerindra Faction), Muhammad Fauzi (Gerindra Faction), Iwan Kurniawan (Gerindra Faction), Lisda Hendrajoni (Nasdem Faction), Muhammad Rapsel Ali (Nasdem Faction), Maman Imanul Haq (PKB Faction), Wastam (Democratic Faction), Hasani Bin Zuber (Democratic Faction), Dr. H.M Hidayat Nur Wahid (PKS Faction), Nurhasan Zaidi (PKS Faction), and MHD Ali Chaidir (PAN Faction).

BAZNAS of West Sumatra Province have explained to Commission VIII related zakat management updates in West Sumatra. Mentioned, from the Rp. 3.6 trillion of zakat potential in West Sumatra, to date only Rp. 120 billion has been collected (consisting of 20 BAZNAS Provinces and Regencies/Cities in West Sumatra), or reached 3.3% from the potential. The provincial BAZNAS itself has collect 19 billion in 2019.

The delivery gets responded by Member of Commission VIII, Dr. Hidayat Nur Wahid, said:

First, zakat is a obligatory, so that with the percentage of Muslims in West Sumatra reaching 95%, zakat management should be more optimal,

Second, he asked the Regional Government of West Sumatra to find solutions and make a breakthrough that could increase zakat collection in the West Sumatra region especially,

Third, Commission VIII is ready to receive input to fight for the better management of zakat in the future,

In that occasions, the Director of Puskas BAZNAS, Muhammad Hasbi Zaenal, PhD handed his latest book to the Secretariat of the Commission VIII DPR RI. It is hoped that the books can be useful as a discussion material for Commission VIII, as well as being a reference for academic texts of Commission VIII's regulatory products, specifically related to zakat, poverty and social welfare.
