Publication and Networking Agenda (PJA-2020) sets the objective to influence the international landscape of zakat research. It is thus engaged with academics, such as higher institutions, to target the university students who are doing research as their final year projects. That is, the main outcome of PJA-2020 is expected to be numerous and relevant researches on zakat are conducted so that can drive the betterment of zakat administration.   

This week on 21/07/2020, PJA-2020 is conducted virtually with Universitas Pembangunan Nasional (UPN) Veteran Jakarta. The programme began with an opening speech from the deputy dean of faculty and business of the university. The speech is followed by the Center of Strategic Studies The National Board of Zakat (Puskas BAZNAS) director, which discusses several issues upon the development of zakat research.   

The PJA-2020 is then carried out after the opening talks. The number of participants, not only the students but also the lecturers of UPN, attended the online discussion. It is noted in the Google Meet the number of more than 170 participants attended. The presenters are the lecturer from the university, the head and a researcher team from Publication and Networking division of Puskas.

In the presentation, the speaker from UPN first elaborates upon the fundamental of zakat including the importance of synergy for the betterment of zakat administration. Furthermore, the presentation is then carried by Puskas’ team. It is first introduced the position of Puskas in BAZNAS. The presentation covered the researches that have been published by Puskas, and those are currently performed. Several questions were addressed including the significance of zakat institutions in participating the mitigation of COVID-19 consequences, and the recent contribution of zakat institution in that regard. 

Taken together, the PJA-2020 with UPN students is expected to influence the students conducting researches on zakat that can drive the improvement of zakat management, notably in Indonesia.
