Saturday (30/01) BAZNAS Center of Strategic Studies received an invitation from the Asia-Japan Research Institute, Ritsumeikan University, Japan to presents an experiences related to zakat research and development in Indonesia on Zakat and Waqf Workshop event with the theme "Reassessing Waqf, Zakat, and Takaful: The Revival of Islamic Welfare Institutions in Asia ”. In his presentation, the Head of the AZNAS Center of Strategic Studies Dr. Muhammad Hasbi Zaenal, explained his experience in research and development activities for zakat in Indonesia.

Starting of his presentation, 2011 law no. 23 on zakat management in Indonesia was launched. This law regulates the centralized management of zakat which covers all parts of Indonesia. After the enactment of this law, Indonesia has become the country with the largest zakat management coverage in the world, which regulates zakat management for 229.62 million Indonesian Muslim population with an area of 1,922,570 km². Thus, BAZNAS established BAZNAS Center of Strategic Studies (Puskas BAZNAS) which is tasked with these supporting above.

 

Currently, there have many research produced by Puskas BAZNAS, both in the form of basic research and applied research, working papers series, policy research, and strengthening publications through zakat International Journal of Zakat (IJAZ) and International Conference of Zakat (ICONZ). He explained the impacts of the above research results for the development of zakat in Indonesia, which are divided into several dimensions, namely institution, collection, distribution, operation, publication and data center.
