The training of Indeks Zakat Nasional (National Zakat Index) and the Assessment of the Zakat Impact in Aceh and South Sulawesi Provinces was held on Tuesday (15/06/2021) via online platform. The training was attended by the Chairperson of the Aceh Province Baitul Maal, the Head of BAZNAS of South Sulawesi Province, the Deputy Director of the BAZNAS Puskas, as well as representatives of the Baitul Maal Regency/City of Aceh and BAZNAS Regency/City South Sulawesi.

In the training, the Chairperson of the Baitul Maal of Aceh Province, Prof. Dr. Nazaruddin and the Head of BAZNAS of South Sulawesi Province, Drs. H. Mappagio, M.Si, said that the National Zakat Index and Zakat Impact Assessment are a relevant evaluation tool for zakat institutions. Aligned with the statement, the Deputy Director of Puskas BAZNAS stated that the National Zakat Index and Zakat Impact Assessment can be a measurement instrument to assess the condition of a zakat institution.

In 2020, only 7 Baitul Maal of the 24 Baitul Maal in Aceh Province participated and filled out the National Zakat Index and the Zakat Impact Assessment. The value of the Aceh Province National Zakat Index is 0.36 (Less Good). This result, nevertheless, might not represent the entire governance performance in the Aceh Province because the level of participation of Baitul Maal in Aceh is considered low.

On the other hand, in South Sulawesi Province, there are 16 BAZNAS from 25 BAZNAS that participate and fill out the National Zakat Index and Zakat Impact Assessment. The value of the National Zakat Index of South Sulawesi Province is 0.58 or Fair Good. Similar to the case of the National Zakat Index and the Study of the Impact of Zakat in Aceh Province, these results might not represent the entire performance in the South Sulawesi region due to the low participation of BAZNAS in South Sulawesi.

It is expected that in 2021 there will be an increased participation in filling out the National Zakat Index and Zakat Impact Assessment therefore there is a complete representation of the conditions and performance of Baitul Maal in Aceh and BAZNAS in South Sulawesi. Thus, zakat stakeholders both at the central and regional levels can map out strategies to improve existing performance.
