The 10th World Zakat Forum International Conference and Annual Meeting 2021 was successfully conducted on 4 December-5 December 2021 under the theme of “Strengthening Zakat and Waqf Synergy in the Post Covid-19 Economic Recovery”. This conference was organized by World Zakat Forum, The National Board of Zakat (BAZNAS), Indonesian Waqf Board (BWI), Pusat Pungutan Zakat (PPZ), Lembaga Zakat Selangor (LZS) and Rumah Zakat. This event was officially opened by the Vice President of Indonesia K.H. Maruf Amin and attended by numerous leaders of zakat institutions from 37 countries.  

The conference discussed various latest topics on global zakat and waqf development particularly regarding the World Zakat Forum’s response and activities in synergizing zakat and waqf for post COVID-19 economic recovery. These points are are regarded as the following, (1) Integration of Zakat and Waqf in Alleviating Poverty and Increasing Social Welfare; (2) Innovation of Zakat and Waqf Programs for Economic Recovery; (3) Global Benchmark for Zakat and Waqf Operation; and (4) The Future Direction of World Zakat and Waqf Forum: Strengthening Global Cooperation Among Member Countries. This year’s conference marks the establishment and conversion of the World Zakat Forum to the World Zakat and Waqf Forum as support in synergizing the global Zakat and Waqf movement.

Based on the 2 (two) days discussion, the World Zakat Forum:

  1. Notes with great concern the threat to human health, safety and well-being caused by the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic, which continues to spread globally,
  2.  Recognizes the unprecedented effects of the pandemic, including the severe disruption to societies and economies and the devastating impact on the livelihood of people,
  3. Recognizes further the role of global Zakat and Waqf institutions in supporting the development of the global economic system in creating economic and social welfare as a response towards the economic recovery post COVID-19,
  4. Fully aware towards the significance of collaboration and synergy of both global and local zakat and waqf institutions in managing social impact and economic measures and for a sustainable and inclusive recovery,
  5. Reaffirms its full commitment towards the conversion and establishment of the World Zakat Forum to be renamed as the World Zakat and Waqf Forum as a supporting initiative towards global zakat and waqf synergy
  6. Authorizes  the World Zakat and Waqf Secretariat to further manage the administrative documents and actions necessary in legalizing and finalizing the establishment of the World Zakat and Waqf Secretariat
  7. Encourages all member states to collaborate and support the establishment of the World Zakat and Waqf Forum through strengthening and innovating zakat and waqf technology and programs
  8. Calls upon  all member states to strengthen their collaboration with all strategic stakeholders to mitigate the socio-economic impact of the COVID-19 pandemic through optimization of zakat and waqf instruments
  9. Further requests for the World Zakat and Waqf Research and Development Unit to implement the World Zakat Performance Indicators in 2022
  10. Encourages  all member states to actively support the World Zakat Performance Indicators

The World Zakat Forum agrees to conduct the 11th World Zakat Forum International Conference and Annual Meeting 2022 in London, United Kingdom and will be hosted by NZF Worldwide. May Allah SWT bless our endeavors in upholding global zakat and waqf movement for a better future of the Ummah.
