Pesantren is one of the educational institutions that not only has the function of deepening religious knowledge but also to improve the economy of the surrounding community. One of the economic instruments of pesantren that can improve the community's economy is zakat. Zakat has an important role in reducing social and economic inequality and also improving the welfare of society. In this case, the zakat empowerment carried out by pesantren are zakat fitrah and zakat maal. In Indonesia, the potential for zakat fitrah itself is even enormous, reaching 2.164.834.500.000,00 last year.
Seeing the enormous potential and vital role, there is a need for special guidelines for zakat management in pesantren. Therefore, BAZNAS as the national coordinator of zakat management has published the "Guidelines of Zakat, Infaq, and Alms Management Based on Pesantren" so that zakat management can be more accountable, optimal, and professional. This book can be a reference for pesantren and other similar religious educational institutions in managing zakat.
This book consists of three main parts. First, the transformation of pesantren which contains a vision of transformative zakat based on pesantren. Second, the potential for zakat collection in pesantren and the urgency of managing it properly. Third, the model of zakat empowerment in pesantren contains types of zakat institutions in pesantren; organizational management of LAZ and UPZ; distribution and utilization of zakat; and reporting & supervision of zakat with examples.
