On Friday, May 20th, 2022, the National Board of Zakat Republic of Indonesia (BAZNAS RI) received a visit from representatives of the Peace Research Institute Oslo (PRIO) and STF UIN Jakarta. They wanted to research the Islamic philanthropic movement in Indonesia. In this meeting, BAZNAS was represented by the Commissioner of BAZNAS RI, Dr. Zainulbahar Noor, SE, M.Ec; Deputy I, M. Arifin Purwakananta; Director of Research and Development of BAZNAS, Dr. M.Hasbi Zaenal, Ph.D., who welcomed the visit of the Senior Researcher of the Peace Research Institute Oslo (PRIO), Dr. Kaja Borchgrevink, together with the Director and the research team of HUMA in Indonesia Prof. Amelia Fauzia, MA, Ph.D, at the BAZNAS RI Office, Matraman, Jakarta.

The meeting discussed the Islamic philanthropy movement, especially for Muslim humanitarian actors' activities from zakat organizations in 3 countries (Indonesia, Nigeria, and  Pakistan). The research's main objectives are to understand the Muslim humanitarian actors interpret the SDGs and how notions of gender equality and women's empowerment shape their humanitarian relief.

"Alhamdulillah, we are very grateful to meet Dr Kaja Borchgrevink and Prof. Amelia Fauzia today. Hopefully, this discussion can help us to strengthen the zakat ecosystem, especially in Indonesia," said Dr Zainulbahar Noor. Several topics were discussed during the session, including the Covid-19 recovery program from BAZNAS, how BAZNAS respond to SDGs, and BAZNAS programs related to women's empowerment program.

After the discussion session was adjourned, Dr Zainulbahar and Mr Arifin presented the "Zakat on SDGs" book that Puskas BAZNAS has published to Dr Kaja Borchgrevink, who represents the researcher team from Oslo, Norway.
