Jakarta, [9 January 2025] — The National Zakat Board (BAZNAS) and the Abdul Latif Jameel Poverty Action Lab (J-PAL) have initiated discussions on a strategic collaboration plan to enhance the impact of zakat programs in alleviating poverty in Indonesia. The meeting was attended by Mr. M. Hasbi Zaenal, Director of Research and Development for ZIS and DSKL National at BAZNAS, along with representatives from J-PAL, including Ms. Nadia Karina, Senior Policy Manager, and Mr. Haris Zamaludin, Policy Manager, as well as supporting staff.
The discussion was productive, exploring potential synergies between BAZNAS and J-PAL to support evidence-based programs, impact evaluations, and strategic policy development for zakat. This collaboration aims to improve the effectiveness of zakat distribution and empower beneficiaries through innovative and measurable approaches.
“This collaboration is an important step in ensuring that zakat can provide broader benefits and have a significant impact on society,” said M. Hasbi Zaenal.
J-PAL representatives also expressed their appreciation for BAZNAS' openness to integrating scientific approaches into zakat management. This meeting is expected to mark the beginning of a long-term collaboration to support poverty alleviation efforts in Indonesia through optimized zakat utilization.
