Jakarta (13/1) The Chairman of Zakat and Endowment Commission of Sokoto State, Nigeria, Mohammed Lawal Maidoki and BAZNAS Center of Strategic Studies (PUSKAS BAZNAS) discussed some waqf issues with Badan Wakaf Indonesia or BWI (Indonesian Waqf Board) in the head office of BWI.

The secretary of BWI, Dr. Nur Samad Kamba, explained that waqf in Indonesia had a huge potential to be developed, in terms of land waqf, cash waqf, and other investments from waqf funds. He also explained some challenges in the waqf development in Indonesia.

In addition, Mr. Lawal Maidoki also discussed about the waqf condition and development in Sokoto State, Nigeria. He said that zakat and waqf in Sokoto State are still merged into one institution, not regulated indepently like in Indonesia (ex: BAZNAS and BWI). He also appointed some questions to BWI regarding the waqf management in Indonesia.

In the end, Mr. Lawal Maidoki gave his highest gratitude to BWI as well as PUSKAS BAZNAS for an insightful discussion regarding the waqf and zakat in Indonesia. He also gave a souvenir of traditional crafts of Sokoto State to BWI, which was received directly by the secretary of BWI. (www.puskasbaznas.com)
