REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, SLEMAN – The National Board of Zakat (BAZNAS) held the 2nd International Conference of Zakat (ICONZ). This year, ICONZ raised the theme of Zakat and the Development of Digital Finance. The conference held from 15-16 November 2018 at the Faculty of Economics and Business (FEB) Universitas Gadjah Mada (UGM). This event discusses how to connect the digital economy into the development of zakat.

ICONZ was held by BAZNAS Center of Strategic Studies (PUSKAS) in collaboration with the Center for Research in Islamic Economics and Business (PKEBS) FEB UGM. This conference gathered researchers, practitioners, zakat authorities, and other zakat stakeholders.

The Chairman of BAZNAS, Bambang Sudibyo said, BAZNAS has developed various kinds of zakat empowerment programs by utilizing technology. This condition is also intended to make zakat, infaq and sadaqah collection easier for muzakki.

"BAZNAS’s digital zakat programs make people from all generation easy to pay zakat, infaq, and sadaqah, particularly the millennial generation," Bambang said, Thursday (11/15).

He considered, the use of digital finance makes the operation of zakat institution more efficient because of the reduction in transaction costs. In addition, the use of digital technology can also increase the transparency of zakat institutions.

For this reason, Bambang hopes that International Conference of Zakat can further encourage the development of zakat in Indonesia in particular and the development of zakat in the world in this digital era.

Director of BAZNAS Centre of Strategic Studies, Irfan Syauqi Beik said, to date BAZNAS has partnered with various e-commerce that are often used by people to transact. Now, BAZNAS focuses on developing zakat services based on artificial intelligence (AI).

Zakat service development by utilizing the technology carried out by BAZNAS, for instance Muzakki Corner applications. There is also the development of an Artificial Intelligence called ZAKI which can be accessed through LINE application. "The ease of zakat services carried out by BAZNAS is to work with crowdfunding platfrom partners, There is also a voice-command zakat service called Lena and can be downloaded on PlayStore," Irfan said.

ICONZ 2018 is held two days which consist of two session in each day. The speaker of the first day was Umar Munshi from EthisCrowd, Urip Budiarto from, and co-Founder of Al Ashriyyah Nurul Iman Islamic Boarding School, Umi Waheeda.

Al Ashriyyah Nurul Iman Islamic Boarding School has implemented digital finance in the management of its foundation. In addition, there are IT experts Fahmi Ridho, and Dean of FEB UGM Eko Suwardi.

The speakers of the second day are Vice Chairman of BAZNAS Zainulbahar Noor, Chairman of the SOZECOM, Nigeria Lawal Muhammad Maidoki, Malaysian zakat academician Abdul Ghaffar Ismail, and representatives of the Financial Services Authority (OJK).

The second day discuss about Islamic social finance in this disruptive era. There were also guest lectures from Elsiddeg Ahmed Abdelrahim Elgezoly from Sudan and KH Ahmad Satori Ismail as BAZNAS commissioner.
