Jakarta - The National Board of Zakat (BAZNAS) held a premiere of the humanitarian film entitled "Iman in the Lap of the Poor" at the Theater 1, Cinema XXI Epicentrum, Kuningan, South Jakarta on Wednesday (02/06/2019). Through this film, BAZNAS wants to inspire and encourage the public to care about the real conditions of poverty in their surroundings.

Present at the event were the Chairman of BAZNAS, Prof. Dr. Bambang Sudibyo, MBA, CA, the CEO of BAZNAS, Arifin Purwakananta, Director of Zakat and Waqf Empowerment of the Ministry of Religious Affairs, Fuad Nasar, Leader of the DPC of Indonesian Migrant Workers (SBMI) Wonosobo, Maizidah Salas, Executive Director of Indonesian Philanthropy, Hamid Abidin, a number of invited guests and the general public who watched for donation.

The 1-hour 38-second film was produced with SBMI Wonosobo, tell a story about Iman, a man who struggle for living a life of deprivation. In this difficult conditions, there are many who seize the opportunity to reap benefits that are not their rights. The poverty reality framed in this story is illustrated like the bondage of moneylenders who make the condition of the poor worse.



Bambang Sudibyo said, zakat is not only a matter of providing assistance, but rather to extend it to how a sense of caring for the difficulties of others continues to be nurtured. Because the poverty that afflicts some people in this country is indeed worrying, but what is even more worrying is the extinction of the concern of the haves.

"Therefore, BAZNAS continues to promote kindness, and continues to invite communities to actively participate in the real problems that occur around their environment," he said.

Bambang added that poverty not only requires material treatment, but also requires spiritual solutions to assist human development. This is in accordance with the Sharia of zakat which complements poverty alleviation programs is by providing da'wah to mustahik.

Maizidah Salas hopes that this film can be a reminder for the public to not neglect their environment.

"We need to continue to nurture a sense of caring in the heart and promote it to the environment as there are many things can make that sense eroded, "he said.

The reality experienced by migrant workers has inspired this story. Migrant workers become an inseparable part of people's lives that are closely related to limitations.

Director of Zakat and Wakaf Empowerment of Ministry of Religious Affairs, Fuad Nasar appreciated the presence of this film in the community.

"This film is expected to inspire and encourage many people to believe, respect and do something in humanity's life.

"At first glance, I caught this film telling about life fighters around us," he said.

Arifin Purwakananta, who is also the executive producer of the film " Iman in the Lap of the Poor" said, the film illustrates the reality that happened to increase a concern for the issue of humanity.

"The film will be screened independently by BAZNAS, BAZNAS region in collaboration with various parties who sponsor the film. There has also been a request from the Indonesian Migrant Workers Community (PMI) in abroad to play this film in Hong Kong, Taiwan and Korea," he said.

According to Hamid Abidin, this film can be an effective means to educate and campaign zakat awareness among the millennial generation.

"Millennial generally prefer to be involved in interactive philanthropic activities, using information technology and pop culture such as film, music, etc. Through this film, BAZNAS can be an example and inspire philanthropic organizations, especially zakat institutions (BAZ and LAZ), to start using more innovative ways in promoting zakat while at the same time attracting millennial muzakki, "he said.
