• BAZNAS Center of Strategic Studies has constructed a conceptual model to measure the implementation of SDG 6 (clean water and sanitation) in underprivileged rural areas.
  • The model which was developed by Puskas BAZNAS is called BI-WAS (BAZNAS Index for Sustainable Clean Water and Sanitation).
  • BI-WAS was created systematically using the qualitative approaches of literature review and focus group discussions (FGD).
  • BI-WAS employs four indicators which are translated further into 15 variables to best measure the condition of a region, be it a village or a city including its local population, regarding its access to clean water and practising hygiene.
  • A pilot study employing BI-WAS was conducted in four underdeveloped rural areas. One of them is Balai Baiak Malai Koto III, Padang Pariaman, West Sumatera.
